How it works

  1. 01

    Add your words

Paste the list from school or type your own. Up to 40 words, one per line or separated by commas.

  2. 02

    Add sentences (optional)

Write a short sentence for any word, especially homophones like there and their. The online test reads it between two readings of the word.

  3. 03

    Print or practice

Choose “Spelling test” to print an answer sheet and the grown-up’s reading page, or open the practice link and choose “Readiness check.”

Giving a practice spelling test at home

Online test or paper test?

The online readiness check works on phones, tablets and Chromebooks. It reads each word with a voice that is already on the device and keeps the answers until the end, like a real test.

Paper is closer to what happens at school and needs no screen. The reading page gives the grown-up the number, word and sentence for each item.

Questions grown-ups ask

Do I need an account?
No. There are no accounts or sign-ups. The words stay in your browser, and a shared link carries the words inside it.
Can a teacher use it for a whole class?
Yes. Make the list once, print the test and the family handout, and share the practice link with families. Students do not sign in, and Listbee does not collect their results.
What if the device has no voice?
Some browsers do not include an English voice that runs on the device. Listbee will not switch to an online voice. A grown-up can open “Show the word” and read it aloud instead.
