02 / A little practice
Your words. Ready to go.
Add a sentence for each word (optional)
Practice reads the word, your sentence, then the word again, just like a spelling test. Keep sentences short and leave out names and personal details.
Up to three spelling patterns, separated by commas. Leave blank to let the child or a grown-up write them.
Each sheet includes a QR link back to these words. Word search supports up to 20 words with 2–14 letters.
How it works
- 01
Add your words
Use this week’s spelling list. Eight to twelve words is a good size for first and second grade.
- 02
Choose “ABC order”
The words appear in a word bank above the numbered lines.
- 03
Print and sort
Your child writes each word on the next line in alphabetical order.
Making ABC order easier or harder
- Easier: choose words that start with different letters.
- Harder: include words that start with the same letter (shop, ship, sheep), so the child has to look at the second or third letter.
- Writing the words also gives one more chance to spell each one correctly.
Questions grown-ups ask
- How are capital letters handled?
- The word bank shows words as you typed them. For ABC order, children usually ignore capitals.
- Can it include an answer key?
- Not yet. For a short list, the grown-up can check by reading the alphabet together.
